A partir del trabajo de Kohut Formas y Transformaciones del Narcisismo, y utilizando dicho trabajo como una plantilla, el autor delinea sus propuestas: Que a la luz de la investigación reciente el proceso de transformación es bidireccional y co-creado por paciente y terapeuta. Esta co-creación de la empatía configura directamente el ambiente afectivo del tratamiento y gradualmente puede transformar la experiencia analítica de ambos participantes; así mismo no es el narcisismo arcaico, o el estado del self de una persona, o la experiencia que uno tiene de sí mismo lo que queda transformado, sino más bien el afecto. El autor lo explora en el proceso de tratamiento y con la perspectiva del proceso de transformación y afecto de los músicos y musicólogos. Se ilustra con una viñeta clínica el proceso de entrar en la corriente comportamental/afectiva de otros.

From Heinz Kohut’s paper is Forms and Transformations of Narcissism and using Kohut’s paper as a template, the author delineates his proposals: that on the basis of recent research the process of transformation is bi-directional and co-created by therapist and patient. This co-creation of empathy directly shapes the affective ambience of the treatment and can gradually transform the analytic experience for both partners; also that it is not archaic narcissism, or a person’s self-state, or self-experience, that is transformed, rather it is affect that is transformed. The author explores it within the process of treatment, and with the perspective on transformation and affect of musicians and musicologists. The process of entering in the behavioral/affective stream of another is illustrated by a clinical vignette.
